Maine Beer Company

This was my second visit to Maine Beer Company in Freeport, ME and it exceeded my memory and expectations. I tried every beer they had on draft – 10 of them. There was only one I didn’t enjoy, mostly because I’m not a fan of super malty red ales.

First of all, their beer is just fantastic all around. I had a hard time picking a favorite, but Wolfe’s Neck, Peeper and Lunch all came close to topping the charts.

They also had fantastic and reasonably priced food. The warmed olives were delicious, and I haven’t had pizza crust so delicious since I was at White Labs in Asheville. It was super sour-doughy, and perfectly cooked.

Finally, and probably most importantly, I just love the mission and vision of Main Beer Co. Servers and bartenders don’t receive tips – because their employer pays them a living wage, which is INCREDIBLE. Patrons are invited to leave a tip, all of which goes to a local environmental non profit. Needless to say, I left my typical 20+% tip, cause the service was amazing, and I love the environment!

After a couple of flights, and a visit to an INCREDIBLE yarn shop who saved my knitting project with a skein of Malbrigo Rios, we headed back to the campground for dinner with a view – of a full moon, that is.

But the dinner was phenomenal. Thai sweet chili and pineapple salmon, which was freshly caught in the gulf of Maine!
