We’ve been on the road for six days now, and it’s been excellent! Our first day was spent driving through Shenandoah National Park, with dinner at Liquid Noise Brewing near Harrisburg, PA. The pizza was awesome and leftovers were delicious for breakfast in Rhode Island the next morning

We made amazing time (and didn’t sleep much) and arrived in southern Maine a day ahead of schedule. It was a great stop to shake down gear, and discover that not only was the battery dead in Louise, but my camp stove was leaking propane. Fortunately, both were easily replaced, thought it was an unexpected $250 hit to the budget!
We stopped in Portland – partially for a yarn emergency, but mostly to try some local New England IPA’s. We chose Belleflower Brewing Company – in part because they had parking large enough for Louise, but mostly because the photos of their beers looked delicious.

Bellflower is definitely a spot to check out if you are in Portland! Fantastic IPAs, and just a lovely progressive vibe about the whole place.
We stayed at a great state park just outside of Freeport, ME (and the home of a clearance-item stove from LL Bean headquarters!). They were having water issues, so there weren’t great showers, but it was great!
OK, it was mostly great. Our neighbor was an older man who stayed holed up in his tiny tent for most of three days straight, and every time he emerged from it, his pants were falling down. Like, a lot. Like, down to his knees and even in full daylight, we had a full moon in the campground. It was special. Be grateful we didn’t get photographic evidence.
